2010 House Evaluation / Travel Tryout Process
Rogers Youth Baseball has adopted a new house evaluation / travel tryout process which will affect all players from age 10 - 15 (4th-9th grade house) as well as any 9 year olds wishing to tryout for the 10U travel team. Please see the Playing Up Rules for Travel Teams page for more info on our associations's rules on playing up. House players register based on their current grade and are NOT allowed to play up.
In 2010, the goal is to have 2 travel teams formed at ages 10-14 and one travel team for age 15 with 12 players on each team. In order to facilitate more equal evaluations of all players at the various age levels, we will be conducting the house evaluations and travel tryouts for each age level at similar times. Please see the date/times for both travel and house below. Note that the 10U-12U/4th & 5th-6th grade house evals are all held inside at the Rogers HS fieldhouse while the 13U-15U/7th & 8th-9th grade house evals are held outside at Rogers Middle School.

NOTE: Due to the small amount of room in the fieldhouse, all indoor evaluations are closed to spectators.
If you would like to be a Travel Coach this year, you must fill out a Travel Coach Application and return it by March 1, 2010.
The evaluations will be done soley by a group of independent evaluators hired by the baseball association. These evaluators have background in playing/coaching baseball at the high school/college level as well as being part of evaluations for other communities. All players will be given a score based upon the following criteria:
- Infield grounders - fielding form / throwing form (35%)
- Fly balls - catching form / throwing form (15%)
- Hitting swing form/ bat spped / contact (45%)
- Running - timed run of 90 feet (5%)
- Pitching - pitching form / accuracy / speed (Note: Pitching is not counted in the player's overall score but may be factored into final coache's selections)
After the first day of tryouts are completed, ALL players who registered for a travel league will come back for a 2nd day of tryouts. Based on final scoring results from day one and numbers of registered players, there may be some of the highest scoring house players invited to come back for the 2nd day of travel tryouts giving them the opportunity to make a travel team. House players invited back to the 2nd day of travel tryouts will receive a phone call from the Rogers Baseball Board informing them of this opportunity. Players then need to choose whether they want to come back for the 2nd day of tryouts and be considered for making a travel team. After the 2nd day of travel tryouts are completed, the travel coaches will use the evaluator's scores to make final choices for each travel team.
Travel teams for the 10U - 15U age groups will be posted on the website by 7PM on Monday, April 19th.
Any players not making a travel team will automatically be registered into their corresponding house league based on their current grade.
NOTE: If a 9yr old trying out for the 10U travel team is NOT chosen for the 10U travel team, they MUST attend the Majors (2nd-3rd grade) evaluations which are held outside at the Rogers Middle School or Otsego Prairie Park on April 17, 2010. See the house eval date/times link above for times.
Review Process
Rogers Area Youth Baseball keeps all tryout forms as well as the overall ratings of all participants in each age group. If you have specific questions on the tryouts, please feel free to write to the baseball board (info@rogersyouthbaseball.org) to request a review of your child's tryout.
House Teams
After all travel teams are chosen, the house coaches will be given the complete house league player list along with their scores from the independent evaluators. The house coaches will conduct team drafts just as in the past but they will be using the independent evaluators scores as the basis for drafting their teams.
